In the early '90s, Amanda was involved in the set up and development of a fixed base operation at a regional international airport, a planning application for local airfield and she has experience of passenger jet and private jet maintenance contracts, lease default and termination and international charter contracts.


1999 and 2004: dispute resolution in matters relating to safety and commercial issues arising out of three passenger train crashes. Over 35 safety and commercial projects including the redrafting of the Rule Book, and development of SPAD Strategy and Level Crossings Policy and Strategy to reduce the risk of incidents and accidents due to signals passed at danger. Both have brought significant reduction in accidents and fatalities. Implementation of risk assessment process across the national network against a highly charged political background and in matters of public interest.

Research, design and implementation of new competency for 30,000 maintenance engineers to improve safe access to track including dispute resolution skills for risk professionals.


Experience of disputes concerning fouled cargo, inspection, hire and performance, charterparties and bills of lading, and other matters concerning owners, operators, insurers, regulators and cargo owners.

First hand experience of hire contracts for dry bulk and container shipments, inspection agencies.

In Practice

When the world economy is under pressure, aviation, rail and shipping sectors are amongst the first to feel the direct effects. Environmental pressures, regulation, market fuel prices, disposable income and company restructuring are major factors in how these sectors respond to the challenge of staying profitable. In the end the objective is to run a successful business in challenging times. Disputes take the commercial energy away from the business needs.
